Playing in an Action Game is not like going bowling or to the cinema. It's physical, intense, immersive, and age is an important factor to consider. We give you all the information in this article.

What is the minimum age at Pixel Rush Lyon?
At Pixel Rush, your child must be at least 6 years old to play. One useful clarification: if you browsed booking platforms before landing here, you may have seen "8 years" on some of them. That information is circulating on a few partner sites and is no longer up to date. The official rule — the one applied on site — is 6 years old. This information is confirmed on our website and enforced at reception.
Why this age limit?
Primarily for safety reasons. In an Action Game, a lot happens at once. There are lights everywhere changing colour, strobing effects in some rooms, and a specific soundscape. For an adult, all of this is brilliant — but for a 4 or 5-year-old, it can quickly become overwhelming. There's also the physical aspect. Our rooms require running, jumping, ducking, dodging, and hitting targets that are sometimes at height — not really suited to very young children.
Last but not least: understanding the rules. Each room has its own mechanics, its own game modes, its own levels. Under 6, a child simply cannot take in these instructions. They end up feeling lost, disengaged, and instead of having a great time, they spend the hour trying to figure out what's happening around them. These are all the reasons we set the limit at 6.
The accompanying rule: an adult required up to age 14
Here's the second essential point. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult during the session. And that adult counts as a participant — meaning they pay for their session, play, and are in the arena with the child.
Why this rule?
First, to enforce the instructions in real time. Closed-toe shoes, circulation zones, behaviours to avoid in certain rooms (don't throw yourself on the floor in Laser, don't stand on the furniture in Hide and Seek, etc.). A child understands these during the briefing. But in the heat of the moment, with adrenaline rising and friends shouting, they can forget. Having an adult in the same room provides a degree of supervision without disrupting the flow of play.
There are also unexpected physical moments. A child who bumps into something, twists an ankle, or gets hurt. Having an adult nearby to react immediately. Our team is present throughout the complex, but cannot be in every room at every second.
What your child will find in the arena
The complex offers 8 different themed rooms: Grid, Arena, Laser, Tacti-Tap, Climbing, Mega Grid, Hide and Seek, and Basket Rush. Each room accommodates teams of 2 to 5 players and offers several game modes and difficulty levels, from the most accessible to the most demanding.
In practice, a round in a room lasts between 2 and 5 minutes. This is deliberately short: intense enough to be a real effort, brief enough to keep things moving without exhaustion, and to leave you wanting more. For a child, this format is ideal: no time to switch off, no round that drags. If they don't like a room, in 3 minutes they're on to the next one. And if they love it, they can replay it immediately in a different mode or level. Overall, the complex offers more than 300 challenges and over 20 different game modes.
Each player also receives a game wristband at the start of the session. This records scores, tracks progress from room to room, and unlocks rewards.

Action Game and age: frequently asked questions from parents
"At 6, will they really enjoy it or will they be lost?"
They'll enjoy it — provided you play with them, stick to levels 1 to 5, and let them choose their favourite rooms. If you go expecting them to "manage on their own," they will indeed be lost. At 6, the experience works when it's shared.
"My two kids are 7 and 13. Can it work for both?"
Absolutely. It's actually one of the great strengths of the concept. The level system means children of different ages can play in the same room, each at their own level. The older one enjoys tougher challenges, the younger one has fun on the easier levels — and they can also play together in the same rooms.
"Can I come with my 9-year-old and just watch, without playing myself?"
No. The accompanying adult (for under-14s) counts as a participant and must play with the child in the arena. This is a firm rule, both for safety reasons and because the activity format does not allow for a purely spectating adult.
"For a birthday party, from what age can I organise one?"
Officially from age 6, but our recommendation is from age 9 so the group can be more autonomous and children understand all the mechanics. Below 9, a birthday party works better as a small family gathering rather than a group of 10 six-year-olds — which would be difficult to supervise for the accompanying parents (remember that one adult is required per child under 14).
"Can my 16-year-old come with their friends without an adult?"
Yes — from age 14, no accompanying adult is needed.
"What if my child is sensitive to loud noises or lights?"
This is a question we hear more and more, and it's a fair one. Pixel Rush is a highly stimulating environment. If your child wears noise-cancelling headphones on a daily basis or has significant sensory difficulties, the experience may be taxing rather than fun. If in doubt, don't hesitate to call us before booking — we can advise you.
"My child has epilepsy — can they play?"
Pixel Rush is not recommended for people with epilepsy. Several of our rooms use strobe effects and rapid light changes that can trigger seizures in photosensitive individuals. If you have any doubt about your child's epilepsy profile, speak to your doctor before booking. This is a contraindication we take very seriously.
Our age-related advice for our Action Game in Lyon
Be prepared to sweat (and love it). Many parents arrive thinking it's "just a game for children" and leave saying they were the ones who had the most fun. Pixel Rush is physical, it gets your heart pumping, it's a real wake-up call! Come in sports gear (shorts, a t-shirt, trainers) and you'll be ready to move through the rooms without constraint. Practical note: heels, flip-flops and sandals are not permitted for safety reasons — so keep the trainers on.
Book your slot in advance. Weekends and school holidays fill up fast, especially for birthday parties. We recommend booking 2 to 3 weeks ahead to have the pick of available slots. And if something unexpected comes up, note that cancellations are free up to 7 days before for a full refund.
Let your children take the lead. This is probably the best advice we can give you. At Pixel Rush, there is no fixed route — you're free in the complex for 60 minutes, moving through the 8 rooms in whatever order you choose. If your child wants to play Basket Rush 5 times, give them that freedom.
